TLDR:

She’s screwed up in the head because she’s been beat down since she was old enough to talk. She doesn’t understand when things are physically inappropriate so she’s very touchy and when people take that sexually, she’s willing to go with it. Her life has been one shitty event after another and while she tries to have hope a part of her hates everything and wants the world to burn.

Her Personality

In a few words Vesper is kind of fucked up.

She has a self assured cocky attitude but it’s really all a farce for a lot of trust issues and a nice dash of self loathing. She does a lot of stupid stuff and can’t really read people that well which is why she always tells people to tell her to fuck off. Because she really has no idea where the line of inappropriate is.

She wants to be good, to have people like her and she doesn’t often hold a grudge or hate anyone even if she get’s mad and rough with them. She forgives a little too easily and while she never actually trusts anyone, she doesn’t really have a sense of self preservation so she seems very trusting when it comes to matters of her own safety.

With Jayne’s death it’s like all the control or sense of self worth she had went with him. She drugs herself because she can’t stand the world without its edges dulled. She’s a lot angrier now and a lot more willing to start fights or push people’s buttons. A part of her wants to hurt and be hurt, to physicalize her pain and make others feel what she’s going through. Her life has been one big pile of crap and Jayne was her one good thing, and now he’s gone, Janie’s gone and the only thing really keeping her here is the child Hanna, although recent events and her anger are making her feel more estranged from him.

Sober, happy people make her want to hurt them. No matter how much she used to care for them.

Her Scars

Beatings started when she was 5 or 6, she can’t really remember anymore.

All she knows is that her family moved and her dad got really angry with nearly everything she did after that, mostly when he was drunk.

-In my headcannon her dad had a falling out with Lee at this time, they moved and he was always violent before, only unlike Veser she had no one in her life to turn to, this is why she fell so hard for Jayne since he was the first person in her life not to treat her like shit and love her despite how fucked up she was.-

She always felt it was her fault because it didn’t happen all the time, and because her mother was absolutely unsupportive, telling her to only get out of the way faster or if she felt she could, fight back. To the outside world he was a great dad, supportive of her in school and in sports, neighbourhood BBQ kind of guy. Her mother was cold and distant towards her for the most part, although occasionally Vesper can remember some love from her.

People had always found her a little creepy, initially because of her teeth but even if people got past that her being supernatural just gave regular folk creepy vibes. She never had close friends, she was always a little edgy and attention seeking, she probably wanted them to notice her, so they’d notice what was happening to her.

While she has small scars and burns everywhere she has a few large ones that really stand out.

She has a scar on her hip from a surgery when she was 9, her dad kicked her too hard and she had to get a pin placed in. Fortunately being selkie the damage was fully reversed and the female Dr. Worth later removed the pin. She still couldn’t walk for two months and limped for the rest of the year. He did it because a school nurse called him to ask about her constant injuries, accusing him of it over the phone. Social Services looked into it but they found nothing, he broke her hip after that, she had to switch schools.

She has a scar on her shoulder from hot water, all it is is a patch of white pinched discoloured tissue that won’t tan. Her dad threw a pot at her when she was 12 for overcooking some mac and cheese.

She has two strips on her back from a belt when she was 12 as well, after that she learned to run away when her Dad got angry with her. She avoided most punishments after that since she stayed out most of the time.

He sprained her arm when she was 13 after some police men returned her home, after that she had zero trust for authorities and gained her “fuck the police” attitude. This was around the time that she met the then 17 year old punk Hanna, he was kind of her hero and taught her about what she was.

She got good at avoiding cops from 14-19 escaping with black eyes, split lips or burns after that if she came home at the wrong time or did the wrong thing or he was just in the wrong mood.

But as I mentioned, it wasn’t always violence, sometime’s he’d be okay, talk to her about school, come watch her soccer games, let her have friends over, they’d have family diners once in a while.
In her mind it was just when she did something wrong, her grades slipped, she didn’t clean up right, she was late too often coming home, she didn’t come home, someone commented on her at work, he had been drinking and she was in the way. In her mind it was always her fault, and she’ll on some level always believe that.

Her Friendships

She likes all of her friends and wants to cuddle with them forever, but at the same time keeps everyone at an arms length, people don’t stick around her for very long and she doesn’t expect any different from anyone.

Vesper isn’t really good with women friends. But she thinks Miggs is adorable, she looks up to and wishes she was Kahti, Lou makes her want to be a better person, Alice makes her wish she wasn’t such a fuck-up, Charlie is her sort of go to gal but she wishes they were closer and Toni is her party girl that she can really relax with. Often when it comes to women they get put off by her in your face attitude and how she’s too blunt. She doesn’t understand girly feelings that well and usually tries to avoid them.

She loves harassing the Conrads, but she really does like them and would do anything for them as she would for all her friends. She see’s Worth as a father figure, including all of the fear that comes with it because she also knows he can get angry and is a fighter so while she respects him, she’s also scared of him. She’s friends with all of the Hanna’s and likes them, she tries to give them all different nicknames because they’re all different to her. All the Vesers are totally her bro’s and she desperately wants to have the biggest shark orgy in the world with all of them.

Her Relationships

Vesper had sex the first time with the girl who used to babysit her when she was younger, they had sex when Vesper was 13, the other girl was 18. It lasted 2 weeks before the older girl left for college.
Her first girlfriend lasted 6 months when she was 15. They broke up when she sneezed in her crotch. She had various relationships after that but nothing longer than a month.
She kind of dated one guy for 3 months when she was 17, but he was uber religious and when he found out she’d slept with girls before he flipped his shit. She made out with his best friend in retaliation.
She’s made out with every girl on her soccer team senior year highschool, but that was at camp for a dare but she went down on 3 of them which wasn’t part of the dare.
